A walk through the delightful hills of the Hunsrueck, in the Rhineland Palatinate, named after Decimus Magnus Ausonius 319-395AD who, summoned to Trier by Emperor Valentinian, wrote the poem Mosella – the Moselle. The work is about his experiences in the region and the journey he made between Trier and Bingen.

The Rennsteig walking trail runs along the backbone of the high-forested area called the Thuringerwald. The historic trail documented over 700 years ago, marks the boundary of former principalities whose carved border stones are still to be seen along its 168km length. The Black Forest or Schwarzwald is the best known walking region in Germany. The Rothaarsteig is one of Germany’s newest long distance walking trails, however, many of the tracks making up the route have been in use for hundreds of years.
The undulating and pleasantly graded trail from Dillenberg in the Westerwald to Brillon in the Sauerland, passes through mixed rolling wood and agricultural country, offering sheltered views towards towering castles, broad valleys and interesting half-timbered “fairy-tale” villages.
